US Scholarship Assistance Program with Showcase
Eurostar Goalkeeper Academy has joined forces and secured the assistance of a US Showcase College/University Program. " We are pleased to work with MSSL a leader in College and University showcasing. We will direct Students in choosing the correct Post Secondary School and guide them in SAT preparation" says John Moreira Director of ESGA. ESGA already has several students who have secured part and whole scholarships.
Along with the best possible training, student Profiling is a big part of Showcasing. Having the right information available to interested schools is a crucial part of your pursuit. This is the benefit our current students in our programs will have available. we have established relationships with top Universities in the US such as D1 and D2 Schools. As well we are working with local Colleges and Universities for students who decide to stay local. This program is just the start of an exciting year for ESGA and it's Goalkeepers. Eurostar has MSSL to help with College/University placements.
When we think of our neighbors to the North, one sport in particular comes to mind, and it
is not soccer. That is why it is surprising that Canada holds one of the best soccer training
groups in North America. Eurostar Goalkeeper Academy, founded by John Moreira, is
based in Toronto, Canada and has a unique approach to training an overlooked position.
Started in 2004 with the help of US Coach Dan Gaspar, Eurostar Goalkeeper Academy was
founded to provide a new service to goalkeepers. While many U.S. soccer academies have
a division for goal keeping, Moreira goes so far as to apply a new philosophy to the sport,
revamping the position of the goalie from shot stopper to defense coordinator. In 2006, the
Academy adopted a European mindset to the game. Typically, U.S. clubs meet once or twice
a week for practice, followed by a game at the end of the week. Moreira, adopting a more
Eurocentric approach, holds practices four to five times a week with multiple scrimmages
and games during the season. The increase in practices, in addition to U.S. style training
techniques, makes Eurostar Goalkeeper Academy, really, one of a kind.
Eurostar’s measurable success comes from the talent it produces. Since its conception,
Eurostar has sent players to a variety of championships with great results. The program
goes so far as to help its younger players find scholarships to play for college teams and its
older players have found spots with clubs such as Clube Desportivo Olivais e Moscavide
in Portugal, S.L Benfica of Portugal, SK Strum Graz FC Academy, and many more. Eurostar
also brings in guests to hold clinics, notably working with Jose Moreira, goalkeeper for
Portugal’s S.L. Benifica.
In short, Eurostar Goalkeeper Academy brings a fresh approach to the beautiful game and
is definitely a group to watch in the coming years. If their previous success is any indicator
of the quality of the program, then players from North America and around the world could
benefit from a session with John Moreira. If you are curious about the group, please visit
their website at: www.eurostarkeeper.com or contact John at jm@eurostarkeeper.com.
Eurostar Director Visits Portugal Futbol Champions S.L. Benfica
For any Academy or Soccer development program to advance and better serve both Players and Goalkeepers in this country, one must venture into a land of promise, dreams, and aspirations, while being witnessed to the harsh reality of rejection.
November 2010 allowed me to do just that at SL Benfica training facility in Seixal, Portugal. This $45 M Euro complex boasts a state of the art training centre, with five quality fields including a mini stadium. This dream facility is where Benfica’s future stars live their dream. All of their Academy programs U14 – U19, including the first team train five days a week. I was invited to be part of the training programs daily, both day and evening sessions. I have travelled the world and observed and participated in futbol in three continents. During the week I was part of the training program and I witnessed firsthand an outstanding coaching staff with their U19 squad, right down to their U14’s. I was also able to be part of a Goalkeeper training program which was outstanding! The quality of the goalkeepers was amazing, the technique and game awareness was brilliant! S.L. Benfica attracts players from around the world due to their outstanding programs, facilities and coaches. I was able to live a dream for 1 week, being at all sessions, and working with the keepers.
I was invited to meet with SL Benfica’s Director of Operation to discuss our GK Programs, and my club involvement in Canada as well as our player development. Benfica, Director Armand Jorge, has been to Canada and appreciates our culture and sees opportunity for our future stars to advance in the game. After speaking with Mr. Jorge, we shared thoughts on the beautiful game and how to improve Canadian futbol. He was very supportive and I am grateful for his time and expertise. Later that day I was requested to do a TV interview with a sports channel Benfica TV, and discuss Eurostar and our game in Canada. Moving forward, we believe Benfica can assist Eurostar and club programs to better implement development programs. Over the next little while we will work with S.L. Benfica to see what part they are able to play in the future of our game. One part in our discussion was coaching development and how their quality staff could assist our coaches. Mr. Jorge was aware that we have produced some Top quality at Eurostar over the past few years. In 2007, Marcel Debellis signed with Benfica for 2 ½ years. Also in Europe, is 19 year old Roberto Stillo, a former Eurostar keeper who has worked hard to achieve his dream in Genoa of Italy.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Benfica, Mr. Armando Jorge, all the coaches including Miguel Miranda. Just as important as this would never happen without my great friend, Benfica keeper, Jose Moreira, for making all this happen. Jose on his visit to Toronto, witnessed the quality of our program and the talent and potential we have. In reality, it is important to have top quality affiliates associated with our academy to raise the standards of our programs.

John Moreira
